Trio da Paz
40th Anniversary Concert
November 14 - 15, 2026
programmed by Jessica Felix
Grammy-nominated Trio da Paz, one of the most visible Brazilian jazz groups in the world featuring three of Brazil’s most-in-demand musicians: Romero Lubambo on guitar, Nilson Matta on bass and Duduka da Fonseca on drums and percussion. They formed in 1986 and will be celebrating their 40th anniversary at THE 222 in an exclusive West Coast appearance.
Together, Trio da Paz performs with a strong sense of cohesion, bringing energy, imagination, and a deep musical connection to their work. The result is a trio that continues to create distinctive, personal music, blending Brazilian traditions with elements of modern jazz.
Trio da Paz’s sound reflects a thoughtful integration of Brazilian musical styles and jazz improvisation, drawing on the harmonies of bossa nova, the rhythms of samba, and the melodic intricacy of choro. Their acoustic trio format—guitar, bass, and drums—allows for close interaction among the musicians, fostering a conversational approach that highlights both rhythmic interplay and harmonic nuance. While grounded in tradition, the group approaches familiar forms with flexibility, allowing the music to evolve in unexpected but natural directions. Each member, established on the New York jazz scene as both a leader and collaborator, contributes to a collective identity shaped by original compositions alongside interpretations of Brazilian repertoire.
