Doubt: A Parable by John Patrick Shanley is a tense drama set in a 1960s Catholic school, where a strict principal grows suspicious of a priest’s relationship with a student. The play explores uncertainty, morality, and the limits of certainty when evidence is unclear.

Set in the Bronx in 1964, Doubt centers on Sister Aloysius, a firm and traditional school principal, and Father Flynn, a progressive and charismatic priest. When a young and idealistic teacher, Sister James, shares a troubling observation, Sister Aloysius becomes convinced that something inappropriate may be happening. What follows is a gripping psychological and moral confrontation, as the characters wrestle with suspicion, trust, authority, and the ambiguity of truth. The play avoids easy answers, instead inviting the audience to grapple with uncertainty and question how we make judgments when proof is elusive.
