Red
by John Logan
September 11 - 20, 2026
Programmed by Aldo Billingslea
Red is a critically acclaimed 2010 Tony Award-winning play by John Logan that explores the intense, tumultuous relationship between abstract expressionist painter Mark Rothko and his fictional assistant, Ken, in the late 1950s. The two-person drama delves into themes of art, ambition, mentorship, and the generational shift from Abstract Expressionism to Pop Art, set against the backdrop of Rothko’s high-stakes Seagram murals commission.
The theatre programming of Red will be complimented by two additional events:
- The Art in Red on Monday, September 14 at 6 pm.
- Red, Rothko, and You on Monday, September 21 at 5 pm

"Smart and scintillating. Red deftly conjures what most plays about artists don’t: the exhilaration of the act."
