Slow Looking in the Gallery
Fridays 1-2
programmed by Erin Partridge
Join us for an hour-long experience of "Slow Looking" in the Paul Mahder Gallery. Slow Looking is an intentional practice of spending a longer period of time with a single piece of work. We will have a brief check-in conversation and then engage in at least two slow looking experiences each week.
Slow looking goes beyond art appreciation. Research has identified cognitive, physiological, and emotional benefits including:
- Stress Reduction and Relaxation
- Enhanced Cognitive Engagement
- Emotional Depth and Empathy
- Improved Observational Skills
- Mindfulness
- Psychological support
- Increased Perceived Beauty
- Social Connectedness
No special knowledge of art or artists required, just a sense of curiosity. Some people find it useful to bring a journal or sketchbook as part of their looking tools. Some basic art materials will be available.
